Ask and Ye Shall Receive – As Applied to Stock Photography

A number of years ago I was interviewed as an early adopter of Photoshop, as part of a book on Adobe Photoshop. When the new book came out, the writer sent me a copy.  The book was very beautiful and I phoned her up to congratulate her. I then asked her what her next project was.
She replied that she didn’t know yet what her next project would be. I  immediately suggested that she write a book on me… and she replied that it was a wonderful idea! A year later my book on Photoshop (Adobe Masterclass: Photoshop Compositing with John Lund) came out.
Would You Model For Me?
A few days ago I had just boarded a plan back from New York when a very attractive young woman sat down next to me. After a very brief conversation I asked her if she would model for me (I always cringe when I ask that…). She agreed and two days later we were shooting. The shoot turned out great and I got great model released stock photo images, as good or better than I had imagined when I first asked her if she would model for me.

Three times I have asked surgeons if I can either have my operation photographed, or, if I can use their facilities to stage a stock photo shoot. Amazingly enough, that has resulted in two actual still photo shoots of operations on me (including a video in which a mesh is installed beneath my abdominal muscles) and an extensive shoot in a physical therapy facility virtually for free (OK, the operation did cost me $10,000.00).
Tony Stone and a Career in Stock Photography
Way back before the beginning of time I once asked Tony Stone if he would loan me enough money to buy a powerful computer so that I could create cool stock photos for him (his company, Tony Stone Images, was the company purchased by Jonathan Klein and Mark Getty and turned into Getty Images).  Amazingly enough Tony said yes and my career in stock photography took off.  Of course, the answer isn’t always yes. I would like to point out I first asked the owner of another stock agency for the money to buy the computer, but he declined.  Silly man!

The Most Important Question
In yet another ancient and audacious act of asking, I approached the owner of a photo lab (remember those?) if he would loan me $5,000.00 to purchase a Beta copy of a program called Live Picture.
Back then Live Picture had layers and a liquefy filter as well as “history” and Photoshop did not. He loaned me the money, I bought Live Picture and for quite a few years was able to work far more efficiently for certain tasks than I could with Photoshop. In fact, the very first job I did with Live Picture that I could not do with Photoshop netted me a not-too-paltry $11,000.00 profit!
Of course, Live Picture lost the battle to Photoshop and there are few people left who even remember it. Oh well….
Perhaps the most important question of all, though, is one to ask your self. That question is: Why not?

Bird Feeders--Using Them to Attract Birds to Your Yard

There is no sweeter sound to be heard in a garden then that of chirping birds enjoying the environment.  During the winter months, when a person is closed inside the house, nothing brightens up a day as watching birds enjoying a meal at your bird feeder.  And this sentiment is shared by over 70 million people in the United States and Canada.
By providing food and shelter to these feathered creatures, these considerate humans are playing an important role in helping birds survive at a time when the bird population is taking a beating.
By knowing what plants satisfy birds, it becomes quite easy to attract them into a yard.  Grosbeaks and cedar waxwings look for an assortment of berries.  Goldfinches like their thistle, chickadees look for sunflowers, hummingbirds search for nectar and blue jays, of course, like to pick through compost piles.  Birds, will, of course, hang out anywhere where they can find a good habitat and an assortment of feeders.

1. Other birds prefer the cover of dense shrubs.

Also, important to keep in mind is that birds need access to water year-round for preening their feathers to ensure good insulation and drinking.  An outdoor water fountain, bird bath or pond can be an attractive garden accent and, at the same time, an important habitat feature.
Another consideration that must be made is in the styles of feeders.  An assortment of several types will provide you with more of an assortment of feathered visitors.  For instance, chickadees will eat from almost any feeder, including the palm of your hand.  Other types of birds will, only, eat from a specific type of perch, feeding port or roof.  The more of a variety of feeders provided guarantees a wider variety of visitors.
Feeders come in three primary types: platform, suet and elevated perching feeders.  Platform feeders, which are, generally, situated at or a little above ground level, will attract a variety of ground-feeding birds such as cardinals and sparrows.  Suet is a rendered beef-fat that attracts insect-eating birds such as nuthatches, chickadees and woodpeckers.  Perching feeders, usually, have one or more seed ports with a perch.  They are, usually, hung 5 to 6 feet off the ground.  These types of feeders serve the culinary needs of finches, chickadees, blue jays and grosbeaks.  Most perching feeders are designed to hold various seed mixtures.  Thistle seed, the preferred food of finches, has a fine texture and, consequently, requires a feeder designed, specifically, for that seed.
If providing more than one feeder in your yard, separating them will encourage more birds to feed at the same time.

• Another popular seed with birds is corn.  Corn attracts birds such as blackbirds, starlings and cardinals.  Most large song birds and some smaller ones enjoy corn.  So if you want to attract song birds, hang your bird feeder high off the ground with plenty of room around it so that the birds can congregate.  Providing platforms and perches at different levels will enable several birds to feed at the same time.  Wire caged feeders and mesh are ideal for corn because they keep squirrels and other unwanted visitors away from the feeding station.

It is important to keep your bird feeders clean.  Old seed shells and leftover seeds should be removed from the bird feeder periodically.  Spilled seed tends to attract rodents.  Make sure that the bird feeder gets washed with a soap solution or bleach and water on a regular basis in order to avoid mold and mildew.  Taking care of your bird feeder and providing the proper food will insure a happy experience for your bird visitors and you.

Squirrel Proofing Bird Feeders - Techniques to Birdproof Feeders

There are really 2 basic approaches to keeping squirrels out of your bird feeder.  The first is to simply try to block them from getting to the feeder.  There are two common types of feeders that do that.

Baffled Bird Feeder - By simply restricting access to the the food in the feeder, you frustrate them and they move off.  The advantage to using a baffle is that it more or less separates the squirrel proof barrier from the feeder itself, so that the bird have free access to the bird seed, and any size bird can still use the feeder.  This is often the more aesthetic approach.  This is often done by pole mounting the feeder, and putting the baffle on the pole.  Other types use a hanging arrangement and the baffle forms a roof over the feeder.

The disadvantage of this approach is that squirrels can leap large distances, and are incredibly agile climbers, so that they will often find a way to land on the actual feeder and bypass the baffling.  With the top mounted feeder you may also find a squirrel smart enough to climb down and cause the feeder to swing, and while they may not gain access to the feeder itself they can cause the bird food to spill to the ground, where they can get all the food they want.

Caged Bird Feeders - Another very common solution is to use a caged feeder.  These are easy to spot, the construction includes some type of cage around the actual feeder area.  It's a fairly open mesh, and in fact a tube style caged feeder looks similar to an electronic bug zapper with the open mesh surrounding the tube.

Caged feeders are better at keeping the squirrels out of the feeder, but they can still get to it and scare off the birds that are trying to use the feeder.  This is often the case when you are trying to attract smaller birds.

The second approach to getting rid of squirrels in your bird feeder is to move them out.  The much more effective types of squirrel proof feeders are those that cause the squirrel to fall off or be thrown from the feeder.  There are two types of those feeders as well,  weight activated feeders and the battery powered or electronic motorized feeders.  While this won't harm the squirrels they are fun to watch in action.

Selling Stock Photos: Tips for Getting Your Photos Approved at Stock Photo Agencies

If you are interested in selling stock photos at agencies, one of the first hurdles you will face is getting the images you submit approved for sale by those agencies. Different agencies will have different criteria by which they judge your photos, of course, but here are a few tips to help get your photos approved with most stock photo agencies:

1) Submit photos with an image resolution of at least 5 mega pixels. Better quality photos can be used for more applications, so you should shoot the photos you plan on submitting to stock photo agencies at a high resolution.

2) Do not submit too many photos at once. Keep the total number of photographs you submit at once to less than 50. Remember, a real human will be reviewing each and every photograph, and they are more likely to reject your photos if they feel like you are spamming the submission system.

3) Attach appropriate keyword tags, but not too many. Keywords are very important for the photos being found by prospective buyers, but too many keywords will look like spam and raise the probability of their being rejected.

4) Edit the images as little as possible. Using Adobe Photoshop or other applications to "improve" the photographs actually decreases the overall quality of the photo, so use these applications as little as possible. Instead, aim to take good photos that do not need editing later.

5) Submit quality photos. Get the light right, make sure they are in focus, use a tripod if necessary. Learn the basics of digital photography to make sure your photos are as good as they can be!

So with your camera in hand lets look at how you can create a great Christmas photo.
The first thing to do is capture the picture and most digital cameras make the job easy. If you're new to photography, simply select a Program mode and the camera takes all the exposure technicalities out of your hands, leaving you to concentrate on the portrait.

For indoor shots some cameras have the appropriately titled Party or portrait Mode. These ensure the camera's flash fires to make the picture bright. All you have to do then is get the person to look good in the photo. When photographing children you'll find they tend to smile unnaturally or pull a face when asked to pose, but there are ways around this to ensure you capture a more natural expression.

One tip I use is to ask them to look into the lens to find the "camera genie". This obviously only works with younger children! They'll start to stare intensely into the lens. Joke about the genie to make them smile or laugh and press the shutter. Not only will you get a better expression, but you'll also find the eye contact perfect.

Most cameras have a red-eye reduction mode that fires a pre-flash to reduce the devil-inducing effect. Make sure this is switched on and showing a small eye icon on the LCD panel.

When you become more experienced try turning the flash off and using natural light from the window or room lighting. The mode appears as a small lightning symbol with line through it. Window light will cast a shadow on the unlit side of the portrait which can be reduce effectively using tin foil, spray mounted onto a large sheet of card. Position this reflector so it points at the subject from the shadow side. As you move the card you'll see light reflect onto the person and the shadows disappear.

A question of balance
If you take pictures using room lighting you may need to switch the camera to a different white balance setting. This is usually automatic, but you can manually correct by setting the light bulb option when the pictures are coming out too yellow. You can also override auto to force a colour cast. A photo of children blowing out candles on a Christmas cake will look better with its natural orange colours.

With more experience, you'll be able to switch to manual exposure mode and set the exposure to suit the subject. The exposure from the candles will make the background dark. Using the manual exposure setting or exposure compensation will improve the lighting and you can check the result using the LCD.

If you go into manual or aperture priority and select a large aperture, you can reduce the sharpness of the background to make your subject stand out.

Try using the camera's zoom lens at the telephoto setting to magnify the subject and home in tightly on the face. Entry-level cameras have a 2x zoom while more sophisticated models have more powerful ranges often up as high as 8x.

Snow fun
The first sign of snow and children will be out sledging, building snowmen and throwing snowballs. Take this opportunity to get some great candid pictures (see our candid feature for some great ideas). But watch out for the pitfalls, snow is very bright and will fool the camera. We explained how to overcome this using your camera manually in an earlier article. The latest Nikon Coolpix cameras have a useful program scene mode called Snow that compensates automatically ensuring the snow appears lovely and white.

You could also consider using fill-flash by switching the flash on and forcing it to fire. This will ensure harsh shadows from reflective snow or bright sunlight don't appear black across the face.

With all your pictures safely captured it's time to share them. In the package that came with your camera you're likely to find a CD with a program on it that takes care of downloading pictures to your computer. Once installed it's all done automatically when you plug the camera into the computer's USB socket. Then you can enhance, print and share them. Kodak and Fuji provide a docking station that makes connectivity a one-touch operation and it even recharges the batteries while the camera's sat in the cradle.

Nikon have taken things a stage further with their Coolpix camera where you can take advantage of their Fotoshare Web site. Here you can upload photos from your computer and arrange them into albums. Select a subject such as wedding or Christmas to give the album a customised design and then email friends or relatives to invite them to take a look. You can also select pictures to be printed via the on-line print ordering service. The program lets you know what size photos you can order from your pictures and posts photo quality prints to your home.

I have heard from several top photographers, and at least one industry pundit, that they are considering leaving the field of photography altogether. I have spoken with a number of my fellow stock shooters who report that their revenues are down fifty to seventy-five percent over what they were a year ago!

Video is generating a lot of excitement with the advent of DSLRs that can shoot superb quality video and the beginnings of a proliferation of accessories and developments that can make those cameras at least the rough equal of what has been previously the domain of pro level video cameras. And while there are numerous reports of trouble with the micro stock model, I personally know at least two photographers who have expanded their traditional stock picture business into micro and are doing well.

Getty, Flickr, And New Opportunities

Getty has apparently abandoned their efforts at producing wholly owned content and seems to be fixated on mining flickr for their new imagery. At Veer we are seeing the search for traditional stock and micro merging. There is, indeed, a lot going on in the stock photo industry! But this isn’t just indicative of stock photography…it is true of pretty much everything.

Change continues at a blistering pace destroying old models and offering new opportunities. Some of us are going to suffer and some of us prosper. I am both hopeful and determined to be of the latter type. That requires doing my best to keep track of all these changes, figuring out what they mean, and then adjusting my own efforts accordingly.

More Photographs At More Price Points

One thing that cannot be argued is the over supply of images. That over supply is being fed at a tremendous pace…and I don’t believe that will end. An over supply of imagery is part of the new landscape.

I believe that there will continue to be a demand for the highest-end photography and some degree of exclusivity, but that the need for such imagery will diminish somewhat as more advertising turns to internet, to motion, and to segmented marketing (targeting fewer but more specific prospects). I believe that micro prices will include more and more of what some call “mid-stock” such as with iStock’s “Vetta” collection.

The lowest of micro prices simply will not support a full range of the kind and quality of images needed. That being said, I fore see more and more free images designed to pull in more market share by various agencies. Ultimately there will be more photographs at more price points.

A More Targeted Selection And A Better Search Experience

The challenge for image buyers and sellers alike will be in efficient searching. Can buyers find the right images for their needs without spending too much time sorting through the chaff? Can sellers provide an optimum experience for the buyers by providing relevant images quickly and efficiently?

Twenty years ago Tony Stone revolutionized the stock photo business by offering a smaller number of higher quality images and making a hundred dupes of each image so that he could get the images in front of buyers more efficiently. We may well be coming right back to that premise. Collections that offer a more targeted selection and a better search experience will be able to charge a premium for that service.

The Road Ahead

I do believe that the road ahead for photography does offer some of us increased opportunities, but that overall, making a living from stock photography will never be as easy as it once was. The first step to future success in this new paradigm is letting go of the concept of whether these changes are right or wrong.

The next step is to see the market objectively, determine where your own strengths coincide with the changes in the market, and to move in the direction of those strengths.

More Quality And Less Quantity

For me, the path is one towards less quantity and more quality and towards getting my images in front of as many potential buyers as possible. To increase my quality I am doing more careful research, increasing my communication with the editors I do have, and being more discriminating in which images I undertake.

To get my pictures in front of more buyers I am expanding the number of stock agencies I work with, developing my web site and SEO, and beginning to utilize social media. Whatever the outcome of my efforts, at least one thing is for certain…this is an exciting time to be in the photography business!

Making a Start With Honey Bees

Knowing honey bees, and having the knowledge for their management, are the two most important factors in making a start in the business of beekeeping. The knowledge should be obtained first or, at least, gaining it should keep pace with any increase in the numbers of honey bees. As in any business, it’s the same with bee-keeping, your need to have a broad and deep knowledge of the subject to succeed in this line of work. So many people fail in different kinds of business because they start it with only a narrow or superficial knowledge of their chosen profession. A very good way to gain the knowledge is working with an experienced and successful bee-keeper. This is one of the quickest ways of learning bee-keeping; and, if the teacher is competent, it can be a very enjoyable experience.

The beginner is not always able to get the best as an instructor, it is therefore, a good idea to supplement such instruction by a course of reading, and thus be able to make comparisons and discuss the instructor's methods in the light of those procedures used by others. In fact, I am inclined to think that a thorough course of reading is the most desirable first step that can be taken by a prospective bee-keeper. Having done this, the next step is to subscribe to a honey beekeeping magazine. At this stage a season with an expert bee-keeper would be of great value, when the reading will enable the learner to use the information, and see the reason for things instead of being simply an imitator, following blindly in the footsteps of his teacher.

Many people who now keep honey bees never had any formal training. Many have become interested in honey bees from the capture of a stray swarm. Neighbouring bee-keepers would be visited, books or magazines borrowed or bought, improved hives and methods adopted, and, as the honey bees increased, so did the enthusiasm and interest, until, finally, the honey bees received more time and attention than did the regular business. Then bee-keeping eventually become a speciality or the sole business.

When a person has decided to embark on a bee-keeping venture as a business, they should learn the business thoroughly before investing extensively. No hard and fast rules can be laid down, so much depending upon circumstances. A young man with no established business would do well to pass one or two seasons in the company of some experienced bee-keeper, as has been already suggested, while a more experienced person already in business, with a family to support, may find it advisable to move into bee-keeping gradually, reading and studying as his honey bees’ increase. Whatever the method employed, let the work be thorough; and, especially, be sure to get plenty of actual experience before venturing into honey beekeeping as a business.

On occasions, a person already has some honey bees when he decides to become a full-time bee-keeper. Perhaps he never formally makes any such decision. He captures a stray swarm, and saves the honey bees, and the stock increases with such wonderful speed that the owner becomes a bee-keeper of substance and scarcely realizes it. This amazing speed with which honey bees increase is one strong argument in favour of a person securing a few colonies and building them up into an apiary instead of buying a large number of colonies at the beginning. By rearing queens that will supply the newly made colonies with brood, and you furnishing them with full sheets of comb foundation, the amount by which honey bees can increase in a favourable season is something almost beyond belief. Just how or where the first colonies come from may well be considered.

Sometimes the person who has steady work, and a good income, can buy honey bees and in the hives that they intend to use. If the honey bees and hives can be obtained locally, from a reliable bee-keeper, so much the better. Of course, there are instances in which a person has more time than money, or there may be a trace of the opportunist in their make-up, and, in either case, the hunting of honey bees, or the putting-out of decoy hives to catch stray swarms, will appeal to them. In those parts of the country where many honey bees are kept, as in Colorado or California, there is no difficulty in catching swarms in decoy hives; in fact, there is difficulty in keeping swarms out of chimneys and the walls of buildings. While out riding one day a man in Colorado, pointed out one house where the walls were covered with five colonies.

He used ordinary boxes instead of hives, and put them pretty high up in tall trees, as a good hive, easily accessible, is quite likely to be stolen. A piece of old black comb is fastened inside the hive or box, and the hive or box is firmly fastened to the tree so that it is not to be easily blown down, a position being chosen where the hive will be in the shade. A tree on the edge of the woods should be chosen, because, when a swarm reaches the woods, it at once begins a search for a suitable hollow in which to make its home. This is sometimes done in advance by worker bees when foraging. The hives or boxes are examined at least once a week, more often if there is time, and when one is found to be occupied by honey bees the hive or box is removed and another put in its place.

Honey bees are also found by walking through the woods in the swarming season. After the honey bees have been found, then the next task is getting them out of the tree and into a hive. Sometimes it is possible to shake them from a light branch into a box, if they are located on a large limb, you might need to cut off the portion where they are located, and lower it by means of a rope. Having captured the honey bees they need to be transferred from the box to a hive. Frames with drawn comb should be put in the hive. A white cloth or canvas should be placed in front of the hive and the honey bees shaken onto it. Make sure there is a slight incline up to the hive entrance. If the hive is left on the spot for several hours, perhaps until dusk, nearly all of the live honey bees will go into the hive.

As said at the beginning, if a person has and a reasonable income they might find it more satisfactory to buy honey bees in a hive; but if they have the time and inclination to get a start by hunting honey bees, or by putting up decoy hives, then this should help them to do it.

Beekeeping and Honey Bees - Harvesting the Honey

Beekeeping is a very popular hobby and obviously the main reason for setting up, maintaining, and stocking a beehive is to harvest the honey. You will know that it is time to harvest the honey (the month depends on your location in the world) when you look into one of your hives and find that the frames of comb are full of honey and that the honey bees have covered it with wax caps. It’s time to remove the super and keep it in a bee proof room prior to extraction.

When the super is full of capped honeycomb you are going to have to remove the honey bees from that super. There are several commercial chemicals available on the market that will make this easier. All the bee-keeper has to do is apply the chemical to a fume board or pad and place it on top of the super. When the honey bees detect the chemical they head to the bottom of the hive to the brood chamber or a part full super below the full one. This leaves the super full of capped honeycomb and bee free for you to harvest.

This product does not harm the honey bees; the honey bees simply find the scent offensive and move away from it. Another method bee-keepers use to clear honey bees from a super is by using a crown board with a Porter bee escape fitted. There is also the Canadian clearer board and the clearing cone; there is also WBC cone escape if required. Using the escape method can take 24 to 48 hours.

Now that you have removed the super you need to prepare the frames for extraction. The first step in this preparation is to remove the wax caps that the honey bees have used to seal the honey into the comb. Many bee-keepers use between nine and twelve frames in their supers, some modern hives take more frames. By using the correct number of frames to suit your type of hive you give the honey bees enough room to draw the comb out to the edge of the frame, they then cap it right on the very edge. This makes it easier to remove the wax caps by cutting flush to the frame. Bee-keepers use a metal knife to remove the caps, the knife works best if the knife blade is hot, after all it’s easier to cut warm wax then it is to cut cold wax. You can keep the knife blade hot by keeping it in hot water.

A tall jug or pitcher that covers the knife blade is ideal. If the container is metal and can be kept on the heat then so much the better. Some bee-keepers like to use their bread knife to remove the wax caps from the honey comb while others prefer an electrical knife that is designed just for bee-keepers. Another method of removing the caps is by using an uncapping fork.

Once you have removed the caps from the comb the honey is exposed, you can then use a straining cloth or bag or you could secure a piece of cheesecloth over an empty pot or container and put the wax cappings on the cheesecloth the honey will drain through the cheesecloth and the bee's wax caps will be left on the cheesecloth. This wax can be processed in a solar wax extractor or in a steamer/melter. Once the caps are removed from the honey comb the honey is ready to be extracted.

This can be done by resting the frame on its top bar (upside down) in a tray or suspend the frame upside down over a tray. The honey will drain out of the comb. The honey comb cells have a slight up turn towards the top bar. This is to prevent the honey running out when being deposited by the worker bees. This is not very a very efficient method but is used as a last resort for some if they can’t get access to an extractor.

It is perhaps better if you borrow a centrifugal extractor from a fellow bee-keeper or your local group, club or association. There are many models of extractor I would suggest you seek advice. You can of course make cut comb honey in 16 oz, 12 oz or 8 oz rectangles. Rectangular cutters are available or you could use a hot knife and cut your own rectangles.

Model Trains; HO Scale Tips and Hints For Getting Started

How does one get started with model trains without spending a lot of money? The long term hobbyists know so much, how can one create such fantastic layouts?

Each of us faces a learning curve when we start something new. Sure getting started can be overwhelming. Or we may find that once we get started, our interests or plans change. HO scale is a great starter scale given its popularity. Here are some tips to help get started with model trains, HO scale.

First, one can learn a great deal from the experiences of others. Learn from other’s successes and failures. It’s a lot cheaper to learn from the mistakes of others than to recreate them yourself. Why spend a lot of money up front only to find that you changed your mind or it didn’t work out as you had expected.

One way to start quickly is to read. Online eBooks are delivered immediately and getting you learning right away. Plus, since they’re electronic, they can be easily searched. Also consider the library for great resources on model trains, HO scale or any other scale. Look for magazines or books that catch your interest.

Second, balance the need to learn up front with getting started. Getting started in a small way will propel your enthusiasm and help you learn without breaking the bank. Each of us has our own, unique balance between learning and action. Find your balance and get started.

Third, start without spending a lot of money. Get started in a small way without big expenses. Save your hard earned money for later when you have experience and are growing your model train hobby. A great way to get begin is with a starter kit. As you get started, you may find that a particular aspect of model trains is for you. Now your plans change and you can start to grow your hobby experience in this new direction.

Fourth, start out in a small way and then grow. Keep your expectations, and your expenses, under control as you learn about model trains.

Fifth, visit a model train hobby store, but don’t buy yet! Hobbyists gather at hobby shops to talk trains. Find them and learn from them at shops or meetings. Of course hobby stores stock and display equipment that may interest you. With model trains, ho scale is a great choice as a starter scale given that many shops stock and display this scale. Use the shop’s layout to help imagine and create your own layout.

Sixth, move off the floor and up to a bench. Sure you can setup your starter kit on the floor. But the floor has special hazards including debris and your feet. You’ll find that a bench makes train operations, track arrangements, and testing much more comfortable.

Hint seven is to make progress by finishing the projects you start. The key to this approach is to never have more than a couple of active projects at a time. Put your energy into finishing a given project before moving on. In fact, consider disciplining yourself to finish a given project before you shop for the next task’s materials.

Eight. Start simple with a proven, stock track layout. As I emphasized above, there’s a lot of value in learning from the experts. Consider starting with an existing track layout and then improve as you gain experience. You’ll quickly learn the basics and be ready for a more interesting configuration.

Lastly, hint nine isn’t as much a hint as a recommendation. Have a great time! Enjoy your model train hobby, including the successes and bumps in the track. Model trains, HO scale or any other scale, is about personal satisfaction. Remember that you have chosen this hobby is for yourself, not for others.
